Considering Ava was my first baby I have had no idea what ages they are supposed to transition into big girl beds or drop bottles or learn to talk – I have googled almost everything!
We had an inkling that perhaps Ava was getting a little too big for cot converted to small bed before we left for the U.S. last year- we would find her half hanging out of the bed some mornings. She was also getting into the habit of coming into our bed a lot earlier than her normal 5/6am. We didn’t think to change her over to a single bed beforehand though as we weren’t sure if she was big enough- was it normal for a 2 year old to need a single bed already? She is so little…
When we got back after our trip we put her to bed as per usual but was woken up at about 11pm to her crying inconsolably- she had fallen out of the bed! The same thing happened the next night- Greg and I looked at each other and new it was time to transition her to a big girl bed!
I had been scouring Facebook Marketplace while we were overseas waiting for a white metal frame bed to appear at a bit cheaper than Ikea’s price of $200- and so on Monday morning a bed came up and I pounced! Come to find out the bed was for sale from a little girl (this was her old bed) because she wanted to buy an ipad! I felt so bad that I was buying her old bed for such a discounted price.. haha.. When she found out that the bed was going to be Ava’s first bed she included some of her old favourite books for Ava- it was the sweetest thing!
We set her up in her big girl bed a few months ago and she has been loving it!
Our little girl is not so little anymore!

I’ll have a DIY for the dollhouse coming next week!
For a number of years I have pinned and saved pictures of pillow DIY’s- from mountains to houses, numbers, letters- you name it. There’s something about an over sized piece of fruit or number that yells “I am fun!! Your baby will love me!” There are so many companies out there that make absolutely adorable decorative pillows for kids- I’ve linked some of my favourite below. I’ve also found a few tutorials that will help you make your own! This DIY is definitely being added to my “to do” list for Ava’s room and playroom!

It is not secret that I love looking at kids bedroom ideas. There is something extremely fun and exciting about designing a space for a little one to explore every day- at least I’ve found it to be so! A bedroom needs to have the necessity of storage and a bed but then everything else is totally left up to the designer! I am by no means an interior decorator but my heart skipped a beat when I saw the final layout of the rooms (especially the little girls’ room.. I know.. I’m partial)! You guys, I am dying over that little girls bed- like literally swooning.
As Ava gets older I will definitely start looking into transitioning her into a big girl bed- as practical as bunk beds or trundel beds are I cannot ignore these little house beds that are EVERYWHERE at the moment.. Should I throw caution to the wind? I would love to hear your feedback as to when you moved your kids to big beds and how you went about changing their rooms up.

After thinking about it for a few weeks we finally took the plunge in turning our guest room into a playroom for Ava! The couch that’s in the playroom is a double bed so we can still have guests etc.
The room is not completely finished but It’s good enough for now! Ava loves it!
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money I recommend searching through your local sites like Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. I had a lot of the items for the playroom already, but what I did purchase I bought from FB Marketplace or Gumtree for a fraction of the price!
I’ve listed most of the sources or similar items.
