I knew I wanted to move Ava’s room around to make it a bit more of a toddler girls room not a nursery. I also didn’t want to purchase anything additional because the room is quite small.
One main change we could make was that the chest of draws had the change mat on top which was the focus of the room up until recently- we tend to change her standing on the floor now (she is way too heavy to lift anymore!)
With a little re-shuffling I think we’ve managed to change this room into a great toddler room! Sources for mostly everything below!

I was explaining to a girlfriend this afternoon that I am itching to do a DIY/Home project. I know our bathroom renovation is off the list for a while (tears were shed writing that sentence) and I’m pretty happy with Ava’s bedroom and playroom.. so.. the next item on the list is our bedroom. I am so embarrassed to even show you a picture as it is so plain. I have nothing on the walls except a cardboard deer head and our bed is so large we actually have floating bedside tables (we have a king sized bed in a room suitable for a queen). Oh, and one of those bedside tables was broken a few months ago so it’s currently propped up by books and an empty plant stand… yes.. it’s as ridiculous as it sounds. Funny side story- If I record any insta stories in our room I have to purposely make sure I never film near our door so the public never sees my broken side table.. haha.. My dad is a carpenter and we have literally put up with this broken side table for MONTHS.. like more months than I can remember so that’s super awkward and sad..
Anyways.. considering we feel insanely blessed to even have a home I put together an inspiration board that isn’t going to cost a fortune. I’m talking artificial plants and a floating shelf. I kind of love the idea!
Floating Shelf- 1 & 2 | Drooping Plants- 1 & 2 | Blue Walls- 1 & 2
I felt like I needed to do a roundup of artificial plants as well as there is no way I am putting real plants in our room- bugs, having to replace them every month.. it’s not happening. All of the below are less than $30 each. Some are as cheap as $4.95!

There are days when sitting in my pajamas and drinking coffee is all I want to do, but at 6am my alarm goes off almost every morning and that is when my day starts. My alarm doesn’t have a snooze button, it doesn’t even have a specific ring tone, it doesn’t get
“switched off” or “snoozed” quite contrary actually- it demands immediate attention.
Before birthing an alarm clock I wasn’t much of a morning person. Getting ready for work could be accomplished in 20min or less and I was very rarely late. Since this alarm clock came into our lives we have literally added YEARS onto our lives! Not what you were expecting me to say right? I have a girlfriend that I meet up with quite regularly who generally sleeps in. If I was to txt her at 7am I would 99.9% of the time be waking her up, well considering we are up by 6am most mornings I literally have lived 2ish more hours a day than her (or my former self). It’s quite amazing when you think about it.
Do I love these early mornings? I have come to expect and cherish them- I can imagine that there will be a time when I am trying to haggle Ava out of bed rather than being woken up by her calls for me.
Once we are up and at it we have breakfast and then have fun at home (I very rarely take her out before her 10am nap as it’s only a few hours away). Our outdoor fun starts when she wakes around midday. This routine is normally followed on Mondays and Fridays when I watch her. I work outside the home Tuesday-Thursday and absolutely love it! I have been blessed with the opportunity to work part time at the moment and it has been amazing- amazing for me as a woman and a mother and amazing for Ava- being able to spend two extra days with her mum!
Most of my “play” weekend clothes don’t make it into my workplace but there are occasions where items crossover and when they do you can be guaranteed that they are going to be super super comfy! I have tagged some of my absolute favourite pieces at the moment- I would wear some of these grocery shopping and some to visit a customer for work. H&M are a huge favourite this time around as well as shoes from Wanted!

Because we created a playroom for Ava we were able to re-arrange her bedroom and create more room! By removing a large white sofa bed we had in her room (It’s surprising the amount of room it took up) we could finally put a little tent which she loves! Sources linked below!
Faux Sheepskin (one on the change mat and one in the tent)
White Frame (I love you forever print)

After thinking about it for a few weeks we finally took the plunge in turning our guest room into a playroom for Ava! The couch that’s in the playroom is a double bed so we can still have guests etc.
The room is not completely finished but It’s good enough for now! Ava loves it!
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money I recommend searching through your local sites like Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. I had a lot of the items for the playroom already, but what I did purchase I bought from FB Marketplace or Gumtree for a fraction of the price!
I’ve listed most of the sources or similar items.
Dot Wall Adhesives (100 percent heart). These are the wall dots I used in Ava’s room as well.
Animal Plush Heads (Myer). Similar ones listed here from Target U.S.
Honeycomb and Tassel
White Dipped Stool
White Frame for print (on wall)
Rocking Horse. I bought Ava’s one from Gumtree for $15. Similar one linked here.
Wire Basket (on table). I spray painted it copper.
Pandrup Colourful Rug
Pink Cushions (on couch)
Small Storage box (with lego inside)
Large Round Baskets
Colourful blanket with pom poms (Similar style linked)
Yellow dipped basket. Similar one linked here.
Not Linked- Tassell Garland (made by me), Books (there’s too many to link), Print (designed by me and printed at our local office shop for $3).
While we don’t get snow here in Sydney, Australia the weather can drop to around 1-2 degrees overnight and in the mornings.
I have already been layering Ava with her pajama onesie and an extra pair of pants and a long sleeve top.. it may be over the top but her room is freezing during the night and with her being so young the flu is the last thing she needs!
There are a lot of really cute jackets (for him and her) around at the moment! I’ve gathered a few of my favourites below! While I am half Assyrian and Maltese, and I was 100% dressed in tracksuit pants when I was a kid, I’m trying to avoid them for as long as possible with Ava!
There’s nothing wrong with looking super cute while staying warm this winter!
From top left to right
Lydia Jacket | Hooded Navy Parker |Baby Jacket | Cape Jacket | Hooded Padded Jacket | Pink Knit | Baby Bomber Jacket | Faux Leather and Fur Jacket | Bonds Logo Jacket | Soft Polka Jacket | Khaki Parker | Navy Hooded Parker
Another thing that can help with the cold are slippers and beanies! I was gifted a pair of slippers when I was pregnant, but during summer I miss placed them.. well.. in cleaning out my closest this week I found them again- they are a fantastic investment during the winter months! I had never really though to buy Ava a pair until I saw them on sale one day and a light bulb went off!
Birdseye Beanie | Slipper Boot | Dinosaur Slippers | Birdseye Beanie (Grey) | Knit Slippers | Mice Slippers | Jacquard Grey and Blue Knit
Knit Slipper (Pink) | Bonds Booties | Rabbit Beanie | Cotton Tail Beanie | White Pom Beanie| Pom Pom Beanie | Bootie Slipper | Koala Slippers
Prior to getting pregnant with Ava I was running 3-5 times a week.. I was also unofficially competing with my husbands father every month on the Nike app to get more km’s/miles than him.. I’m not sure if he was actually aware of it which is why I saw “unofficially competing!”
When I miscarried late last year I thought it may have something to do with me continuing to run, so I stopped all exercise.. from memory I only started running again well after 3 months.. I stopped again at the 7 month mark- it was getting to awkward.. I take my hat off to all those women who compete in marathons at 8 months pregnant- good for you!!!
While I was pregnant, I continued wearing my normal gym wear- I was dying for maternity tights but couldn’t find them anywhere!! Only recently I noticed Cotton on had a maternity active wear range– say what?!?!
What I’ve also noticed is that active wear has gotten so so expensive! Greg and I are Nike fanatics- I love the feel of their clothing and their designs- but honestly, who is spending $160 on tights.. TIGHTS?!?!?! I made it my mission to find similar looking items for a lot less! You can definitely look great, have good work out gear and not break the bank!
If you just had a baby I would recommend going and getting new work out or running gear. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but a new pair of tights or a new pair of shoes will go a long way in getting you back into it- trust me!!
I picked two companies that have pretty expensive items- Nike and Lorna Jane and found similar looking items for A LOT less.. I hope the below is helpful!
Nike- Tights and Top // Cotton on- Tights and Top
Lorna Jane- Tights and Top // Kmart- Top // Cotton On- Tights
As for actually working out or running, my recommendation is to do what you feel comfortable with! I’ve walked a lot since Ava was born- I highly recommend walking- it’s a lot less strenuous and you can go a lot further. I struggled to run for 25min last week but can walk for upwards of an hour on any given day. If you live in Australia there is a company/facebook community called Running Mums Australia– I highly recommend joining the group- it’s a great support network! If you were somewhat of a runner prior to baby and you don’t have the motivation to start again I would recommend downloading the Nike + Run Club app- you can set goals to run a certain distance by a certain time and be “trained” by a coach on each run. Whatever you decide to do- remember- you just carried and brought a baby into this world- and that is an amazing achievement!
